What changed, in plain language

Walmart added a new section explaining that voice interactions with its Sites — including voice search and the Sparky AI shopping assistant — are collected and turned into text transcriptions. The notice says Walmart only captures voice when you turn on a voice feature and does not use your voice for biometric analysis. This is a new disclosure of data collection, but it comes with clear limits and user-triggered activation.

Changes that may affect you

Walmart now collects transcripts of what you say to voice search and SparkyMINOR
DATA COLLECTION

Walmart added a new type of information it collects: text transcripts of your voice interactions with its websites and apps, including the Sparky AI shopping assistant. The notice does not say how long these transcripts are kept or exactly who inside Walmart can see them. The impact is limited because Walmart says recording only starts when you deliberately turn on a voice feature, and it promises not to use your voice for biometric analysis (meaning it won't use your voiceprint to identify you).

When you interact using your voice, Walmart receives a text transcription of the interaction. Walmart does not use voice data for biometric analysis. Walmart will only capture voice interactions when you activate a voice feature, such as when you press the microphone button in the search bar or within Sparky.

What you can do — If you don't want Walmart storing what you say, type your searches instead of using the microphone button or Sparky. You can also turn off microphone access for the Walmart app in your phone's settings.
