Assam and Bihar have decided to withdraw cases registered against NEET protestors after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) warned that it would resume its agitation if legal action against students and demonstrators was not stopped.
The Assam government on Monday announced that it would withdraw all five cases registered in the state in connection with protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET (UG) examination. At least 13 people had been arrested in these cases as of 6 pm on July 26.

The state Home Department said no adverse legal action would be initiated against people involved in the protests and the process to withdraw the cases would begin as per law. It also said the arrests would be reviewed and those detained would be released after necessary procedures.
Bihar Also Drops Cases, Orders Release Of Protesters
The Bihar government also announced the withdrawal of cases filed against NEET protesters and ordered the release of those arrested during the demonstrations.
The state Home Department said no punitive or retaliatory action would be taken against individuals who participated in the protests before 6 pm on July 26. It added that FIRs, criminal complaints and show-cause notices against protesters would be withdrawn.
According to police, 694 people were detained during the Bihar bandh called on July 25 by pro-Left student organisations. While 339 minors were released, the remaining 355 people were booked under various laws.
The government said all persons arrested or detained in connection with these cases would be released immediately and no further action would be taken against them.
CJP Warns Of Fresh Agitation
The developments came after the CJP demanded the withdrawal of all FIRs against protesters and organisers involved in the NEET paper leak agitation.
CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the organisation had discussed the issue with the government during talks on July 25, before its 36-day protest at Jantar Mantar was called off. He said an agreement was reached that cases against protesters would be withdrawn and no fresh FIRs would be filed.
Ranka said the government was expected to provide a written assurance by Tuesday after legal consultations. He warned that the CJP would be forced to resume protests if the agreement was not honoured and arrested protesters were not released.
The CJP also demanded that no future cases be filed against students, organisers or supporters linked to the agitation.
"We are waiting for the government to share the written agreement. We hope a senior Cabinet minister will honour the agreement and the FIRs will be withdrawn, no protester or organiser would be harassed, and no cases would be filed in future," Ranka said.
