What changed, in plain language

Intel added a section spelling out privacy rights for people in certain U.S. states: you can access, correct, delete, and get a copy of your personal information; opt out of data "sales," "sharing," and targeted advertising; use an authorized agent; and appeal if Intel says no. It's mostly a grant of rights. The one catch: the advertising opt-out is tied to your browser, so you have to redo it on every device and after clearing cookies.

Intel confirms it "sells" and "shares" personal information for targeted advertising, and gives you a way out — but the opt-out is stored in your browser instead of tied to your account. Clear your cookies, use a different browser, or pick up your phone, and the sharing quietly starts again unless you opt out all over again. The rights themselves are a plus; this is the friction attached to them.

What you can do — Turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser (built into Firefox, Brave, and DuckDuckGo, or via extension) so the opt-out applies automatically — otherwise use the "Your Privacy Choices" footer link on every browser and device you use, and again after clearing cookies.

    You can ask Intel what personal information it has about you, get it in a portable file, correct mistakes, or have it deleted — through an online form or by emailing the data protection officer. Intel may ask you to confirm your email or describe recent dealings with them to prove it's really you.

    You have the right to: (1) request to know more about and access your personal information, including in a portable format; (2) request deletion of your personal information; and (3) request correction of inaccurate personal information.

    You can tell Intel to stop "selling" or "sharing" your information and to stop using it for targeted advertising, using the "Your Privacy Choices" link in the website footer. Intel also honors browser signals like Global Privacy Control.

    You also have the right to opt out of "sharing," "sales," and use of your personal information for "targeted advertising".

  3. + ADDEDOpt-out only sticks to one browser

    Your opt-out choice is saved in your browser, not on your account. If you switch devices or browsers, or clear your cookies, you have to opt out again.

  4. + ADDEDNew: no punishment for using your rights

    Intel says it won't treat you worse — for example with worse service or pricing — because you exercised a privacy right.

    You can name an authorized agent to make privacy requests on your behalf. Intel may ask that agent for proof of permission and may contact you directly to confirm.
