What changed, in plain language

DropCatch added a rule about re-auctions: if the original winner doesn't pay and the domain goes back up for sale, every backorder placed before the first auction is automatically re-entered as a binding bid at that backorder price — you don't have to do anything, and you can be on the hook to pay if you end up the high bidder. The update also clarifies that it's the non-paying customer whose accounts get suspended, and refreshes the revision date.

USER OBLIGATIONS

Before, a backorder got you into one auction. Now, if that auction's winner doesn't pay, your backorder is automatically thrown into the new auction as a binding bid — even weeks later and even if you've moved on or no longer want the domain. Nobody has to ask you or notify you. If you end up the highest bidder, you owe the money, and DropCatch will automatically try to pull it from your NameBright balance or the card on file. If you don't pay, both your DropCatch and NameBright accounts get suspended indefinitely. There is no stated way to opt out of the re-auction once your backorder was placed.

all backorders placed on that domain prior to the start of the original auction will be entered into the re-auction as binding bids at the applicable backorder price, without any further action required by the customers who placed them

What you can do — Check any backorders you've placed on domains that went to auction but didn't sell, and contact support@dropcatch.com to cancel ones you no longer want. Also make sure the card on file and your NameBright balance reflect only what you're actually willing to spend, since payment attempts happen automatically.

Changelog

  1. ± CHANGEDOld backorders are automatically turned into binding bids in a re-auction

If someone wins a domain and doesn't pay, the domain gets re-auctioned. Now, everyone who placed a backorder before the original auction started is automatically put into the re-auction with a binding bid at their backorder price. You don't get asked first, and you don't have to click anything. If you turn out to be the highest bidder, you must pay.

In the event a customer fails to pay for a domain they won in auction, the domain may be re-auctioned. The customer's DropCatch.com and NameBright.com accounts will be suspended indefinitely.

If a domain is re-auctioned, all backorders placed on that domain prior to the start of the original auction will be entered into the re-auction as binding bids at the applicable backorder price, without any further action required by the customers who placed them.

  2. ± CHANGEDClarified who gets suspended for non-payment

The old wording just said "the customer's" accounts would be suspended, which was unclear. It now says the non-paying customer's accounts are suspended — so winners of a re-auction aren't punished for someone else's missed payment.

The customer's DropCatch.com and NameBright.com accounts will be suspended indefinitely.

The non-paying customer's DropCatch.com and NameBright.com accounts will be suspended indefinitely.
